Maybe one of our most ambitious undertaking yet. Not in terms of the size of the venue but in terms of the small amount for FOH we will try to use. This is an outdoor venue with live sound in downtown Paxton IL. We will use four GC25, two RachE18 subs and two SLVX series subs to provide complete FOH duties. Come out and see if we can pull this of with a little MVW club rig. I'm not even sure about this one.Wile E

It's crazy if you think about it. 4 5" woofers paired with 4 high output 18's lol. If it works (I wouldn't be surprised if it does), I'll be super impressed with the GC25's. I'd think just 2 RachE 18's would do it, but i don't know anything about the gig either study.

Ah, but I'm sending the rocket launchers of the GC25 world. Not available yet to the public, I have to import the drivers. 5db sensitivity gain over the GC25AK. I only have a pair. They are going to be the top of the line model.

Oh man, I've been trying to decide whether or not to upgrade mine with the new drivers or not. My faitals sound sooooo sweet. I'll be anxiously waiting to hear your opinion on this setup!

5 dB gain, but how is the sound quality compared to the Faitals? Warmer, brighter, sharper, etc?

Virtually identical.  A bit more mid forward, but once I correct the zoble that will be fixed.

Steve will have stacks at this gig.  I've twisted around the demo cabs out there and he'll have them all.  At least 5 per side.  Maybe 6.

If you're anywhere around this gig, go.  Stacks of GC25's are magic.

Need a lil more info on the event before the b&c will issue a hall pass. From what I can glean off of the inter webs, is this the PBL homecoming? Is there a band? Or a website to refer to? Thanks!

This is a Fall special event for Paxton, IL. There will be three bands performing in the afternoon and into the evening. The music will be Country and Classic Rock. For those who wish to stay late ( the event ends at 10PM) ESP will be playing indoors at Shookys Bar located on the North East corner of the intersection where the main stage will be located.

I have a warmup gig in Chatsworth, IL on the 7th to get the rig ready.

The bands include Sugar Prophets (blues) and ESP( classic rock). What's wrong with county? jocolor Besides you don't have to come down that early. There will be music all day.

Now, if you really want to catch hell come down at 8am to help setup!lol!

Cables tested, counted, and packed; lighting repaired; Behringer crap pulled from signal chain and replaced with Ashly processing; Microphones present and accounted (gonna try out some new Audix gear); Trailer loaded and ready to go...7am load-in and I can't get to sleep...Wile E

September 21st 2013 Paxton IL Street Dance Empty Combat Audio

Post by Steve Regier Mon Sep 23, 2013 2:24 pm

We got there on time. The road where the trailer was staged was still open. Two of the four lanes were blocked of by local PD and we began to unload and setup. FOH was up in 45 min and we did a quick sound check. I had replaced (with Elliott's prompting) our Behringer FX processing with Ashly including a vintage CL52e compressor. The only EQ needed (other than that on the channels) was a .3Q -4db notch at 210Hz and a .5Q -3db notch at 2KHz. Each pair or GC25s had one channel of an Ashly KLR3200 so two KLR3200s in use for the eight tops. The crossover point between tops and subs was 110Hz. Each top was fed about 275Watts for a total of 2200Watts. The subs in use were two Lil'E21s, a 218SLVX, and two RachE18s all on an Ashly KLR5000. The subs were powered with about 4000Watts. Stage monitors were on Crown XTi power. We fired up FOH and it sounded oh sooooo... good. Cool I gave it the beans and pushed to unity. My line voltage meter dropped to critical (>75 VAC). I was afraid of that...then poof we lost stage left mains...ASHLY DOWN! Taz We were connected to power directly at the temporary box the city put on the light pole but as I feared when we first inspected the drop the main circuit couldn't hold up. They gave me what looked like 80amps broken out on four 20amp breakers all on the same 110 phase rather than the two 50amp circuits one on each side of a 220 feed as I had requested. I would have done better on my 15KW generator. I will be sure to have it next time. We switched to a backup amp and BAM! (it was a Crown Xti 4000 but what ya gonna do?) I made a note to not push FOH past -5db. When we did the low voltage made the Crown drop out. The first band was on time and we them dialed in minutes. They were a blues band called The Sugar Prophets. At mix position we had an average output of 105db at the bank across the street (about 75 yards) sound was still 100db. There were many compliments on the quality of the sound. I must agree. The bands sounded better and more dynamic than the recorded tracks I played in between sets.  Cool Cool Cool . We had some reconfiguration issues and monitor changes as the bands changed throughout the day but nothing that is uncommon the live sound engineer. The last band was a very professional but loud rock band (ESP). Their show averaged 110db at mix position ... but a good show and appropriate level for a big rock show finale. I started experimenting with taking instruments out of compression. I eventually had a compressed subgroup and an uncompressed subgroup. This proved to be the winning strategy. I could put the instruments I needed to keep under control like the overheads into the compression group and let the Ashly tame them. The instruments I wanted up over the top like kick and vox I put into the uncompressed group. I will continue to use this strategy as the vocals were clean and soaring but the band never was lost all while the kick was punching everyone in the chest with a clean articulate beater. The drummers from each successive band asked,"...your gonna make me sound that good, right?"  Once again many compliments on the sound. I'm confident the bands got more fans and bookings as a result. The main issue I need to work out is better monitoring for the artists. Maybe we'll build some of Leland's new flat-pack stage monitors...Uh Oh ... did I let that out too soon?

I usually do similar things with compression. The only difference is, I compress everything, but put only the things I want to stick out in the mix on the uncompressed bus as well (vocals ect). Parallel compression is the best! Headroom for days!

Just think, that stack could have been 5 db more sensitive...could have gotten away with half the cabs! 8 5" woofers paired with 4 18's and 4 21's outside....that is absolutely insane. affraid

I would like to point out that more sound front (taller stack) running at 50% power would be my preference. This gives a bigger presence and more projection of the sound without more SPL. More of the MVW magic. Ideally would have liked to have had four more GC25s but this performed just fine and would have kicked my four Otop15's collective assess.:twisted:ur
